Updates from Nairobi
Five weeks at UNEP and almost seven weeks in total in Kenya. Time goes very fast and I can’t really imagine myself in another place. I really like it here in Nairobi and have already got to know so many friendly people and new friends – both locals and internationals!
I’m also feeling more at home with my work at UNEP. Last week I worked on the layout and content for two website that will lie under Ecosystems Services and Economics unit – the different projects are called ProEcoServe and VANTAGE (Valuation and Accounting of Natural Capital for Green Economy). So we had some meetings on how the websites would look like and what templates to use, and then I did a layout-version in Power point just to get an idea on how it would look like. And we also had a learning-session on how the website works so we can manage the web page ourselves. Makes things a bit easier as we then don’t have to ask the IT-section to do it for us all the time.
This internship really covers different parts- from writing drafts, working on more technical things to sitting in meetings discussing future projects. Last week we also played a board game during working hours! That was really fun. David (my intern colleague) made up this game about how ecosystems are affected by cities, agriculture and industries.
I’ve really adjusted well to the daily life here and during the week its mainly work – from around 8.30 am until 4.30 pm depending on the work load. I’m kinda tired after work so I usually just go home and cook food, do some workouts and chill with my room mates. But during the weekend we do more stuff! Two weeks ago we visited a national park called Hells Gate in Naivasha which was super fun. And last weekend we visited the coast of Mombasa, really beautiful! Kenya overall is a very stunning country and there is so many thing to see and do here.
Anyways, as I have been sick all week my writing skills are not on top today. So let’s do some photo bombing instead.
Over and out!
