Hello Nairobi!

I have now been in Nairobi, Kenya for a week and I am starting to feel at home in my apartment that I share with three other people. It feels very good to finally be here after a few months of waiting and preperations back home in Sweden. So why am I here?

To rewind a little… I just graduated from the Swedish Agricultural University and can title myself as an agronomist with a master’s in animal science, and I will now do an internship at the United Nations for six months here in Nairobi. I will be an intern at UNEP (United nations environmental programme) and my main task will be to analyse and compile data of developing countries natural resources, which will be presented in a report and released next year by the UN. I will start my internship this up-coming monday and I am very excited and a bit nervous!

This is actually the third time I am in Kenya but this time I will stay much longer than before and hopefully see more of the city, country and the culture. Now I will actually live and be a part of the daily life here – which feels very exciting! I have noticed three things from the past week; total chaos in the traffic (but I somehow manage to cross the roads anyway), kenyan people are very beautiful and the fruit here is just so amazing (it looks and tastes so much better than the fruit from back home!).

We visited a tea farm this week (just outside of Nairobi in a town called Limuru) where we learnt how the whole process of tea making is conducted. From picking of the leaves to how it ends up in the tea bags that we buy in the store. The man on the picture below  stands in the middle of a big tea field and he was one of our tour guides.

The picture below I wanted to share beacuse it shows how a typical market can look like here in Nairobi. People sell a lot of different things and the markets are always very lively. I just sat there for at least 30 minutes watching everything that was going on. The people and the culture here has a pulse and charm that I really love.

I hope you want to follow me on this journey and I will do more updates as I start my internship at the UN. Kwaheri!
